A place apart in Galway
"If you’re going to build yourself a dream home go for it – and don’t let compromise get a look in," says Irish property developer Damian Crehan, who saw his project rise from the drawing board into reality in just six months in the beautiful countryside of County Galway.
"I wanted to build a home that looked like the traditional old properties in the area from the outside – but more like the Guggenheim inside." He’s certainly managed it.
A mixture of local stone and white exterior walls gives the property the appearance of having been part of the scenery for many decades. But the interior is an open-plan, high-tech work of genius. Plasma screens and minimalist furnishings, dramatic, original art and designer furnishings make for eclectic, inspiring features and they’re set off to great effect by the natural light that saturates the house via its VELUX roof windows.
"I chose VELUX because, like I said, I didn’t want to compromise." says Damian.
"The feelings of airiness and space they bring to every room make what’s already a big house even more expansive."
